I hope my comments make it to the review page because I think it is extremely important that this community, and even greater FT. Lauderdale for that matter, recognizes that right here in our back yard is a man by the name of Armando who owns and runs Penny Lane Emporium Music but “owning and running” ate simply perfunctory terms and hardly come close to what Armando, almost single-handedly brings to this community. As many of us realize, music is a great uniter and an incredible source for healing and inspiration. Whether you’re at the top of the game musically, Armando embodies what music is all about and treats everyone with tremendous grace and kindness, and certainly alot of patience when it comes to dealing with me. While I have been fortunate enough to provide lyrics to some very notable artist, I’m often told by these artists to not toxify my lyrics with my very basic 1 4 5 progressions unless I’m having a brilliant day and I throw in a minor or a 7th . Regardless, I’m always filled with lots of questions and Armando is always willing to provide me with answers. I have had my two 8 year old twin boys and my5year old precious little girl take many lessons from both Armando as well as his extremely competent staff and I’ve even had a few lessons. Additionally, I don’t think twice about where I purchase my many guitars, drums , amps and the list goes on and on and on. In fact, I think I may be one of Armando’s first few customers! Armando, a heartfelt gratitude to you for sharing your emporium but more importantly, the beautiful soul and unique understanding of the great meaningful value that music has in this community and all over the World!
The Pono MT arrived in excellent condition and has been christened “Ahulili” after a mountain in east Maui. (there is a song Ahulili that I am learing and really like). I have spent a few hours playing it and comparing its sounds with “Lokilani”, my low-G Kamoa tenor (purchased from Penny Lane Emporium in February). I am really happy to have two tenor ukes now, one with high-G and one with low-G strings. The Pono is in perfect condition with a beautiful satin finish, and its action is actually easier to play cleanly up and down the fret board than the Kamoa–and the Kamoa is very good. The strings are smaller in diameter and have a brighter sound than the Aquila strings that are currently on the Kamoa, but both have lovely, though distinct voices. The Pono really stands out with the shape of its neck. It fits my hand better than any of the three other ukuleles that I have.
Had I bought the Pono first, I might not have bought any other brand, but that would be unfortunate in a way, because the Kamoa is a great sounding and beautiful ukulele. The Pono is the second ukulele that I have purchased from Penny Lane Emporium this year, and exceeds my expectations. Thanks, Armando, for guiding me to high quality ukuleles at reasonable prices.
I was visiting family in Florida and decided I couldn”t take a ukulele with me for fear that the TSA would smash one of my nice wood ukes. I convinced my wife”s uncle to drive me an hour north to Penny Lane Emporium specifically because I knew they had a good reputation for ukuleles. Once I got there, I was floored by the sheer quantity of ukes they had in stock! I probably spent a half hour trying out all the different ukes I have never gotten the chance to play before; K-Brands, Ponos, Islanders, electric ukes, you name it!
Eventually, I settled on a Magic Fluke, both for it”s beauty and for its likelyhood of surviving both the TSA and small children. Both guys (Armando and Ash I think?) who were working at the time were great and were very helpful and accommodating. The uke was set up with new Aquila strings and played great! I highly recommend Penny Lane for anyone who wants their first, second, or 6th uke! – Mike from PA
I love Penny Lane. It’s the best place ever. I enjoy picking up and practicing guitar. Not just because Mr. Armando is the best teacher in the whole world, it’s because that’s what I enjoy and inspires me to write my own songs. With Mr. Armando’s creative mind, I am learning all new things. Only in the funnest, best, greatest way ever.

Just wanted to thank you once again for the Eastman parlor guitar you shipped to me here in New Zealand a couple of years ago. It is a truly fantastic instrument I used it on a friend”s album. An excellent D18V and Martin acoustic have been virtually unplayed since I got the Eastman. All my mates share my opinion of this guitar, so thanks! Hope all is going well with you and your colleagues at Penny Lane. – Cheers, Alex
I like going to my guitar lessons because they are fun. They help me learn. My teacher is very funny. He is a good player.”
